I like this one... FT-897D.. all-band-all-mode
Summary
The FT-897D is a rugged, innovative, multiband, multimode portable transceiver for the amateur radio MF/HF/VHF/UHF bands. MODing FT-8900R - FT -8900R for extended TX/RX
1. Remove top cover of radio by removing all 8 screws.
2. Disconnect speaker and move top aside.
3. Locate the CPU on the radio, it has a crystal glued to the top of it and is located in the front left corner of the radio,it's the largest IC in the radio.
4. To the EXTREME left of the radio, you will see a row of pads, all empty except for a diode to the front, and one to the back. There are about 6 or 7 spots for diodes, but only 2 installed.
5. Remove the FRONT (closest to head of radio) diode with a small soldering iron or other tool.
6. Turn the radio back on, it will AUTOMATICALLY reset.
7. You now have ext coverage eg. TX 450-470, TX 150-170, etc...

MODing FT-8900R - Increase fm-deviation on 10m
The FT-8900 is a suberb rig, but has quite low transmit fm-deviation on 10m. This however can easily be adjusted in the hidden setup menu.
Just do the following:
1. switch off the rig
2. switch it on again, holding the LEFT v/m and the (RIGHT) hyper memory (6) buttons. Release the buttons.
3. the display now shows "F1 SETMOD RESET"
4. sequentially push the following buttons: (one after the other) LEFT "low , v/m, hm, scn", then RIGHT "low, v/m, hm, scn" (8 keys in total.!)
5. the display now shows "A0 menu".
6. Push RIGHT dial button ca. 2 sec. and release ---> A1 menu is displayed.
7. Repeat this procedure until A4 menu is displayed.
A4 is the 10m. deviation menu.!
8. Turn RIGHT dial button untill DEV.3FH is on display, this is the max. adjustable deviation, ca. 2.8 Khz peak.
9. Turn rig off.... and turn it on again...THAT'S IT.!
Good luck with the mod..! (works perfectly with my FT-8900R) But remember, you do it on your own risk..

UnBoXeD FT-8900R!
Finally.... made my decision and buy FT-8900...
soooo... marvellous.... I like this rig... of coz I like... it's soo expensive...
some people just say this rig mobile just a waste.. 10m & 6m on FM only...
hmmm... for me.. it's just a beginning... of what?? EXPLORING...
yup.. I like to explore...
Let's start unboxed the FT-8900..
1. Diamond CR8900 (antenna)
2. Toesu RG-58 A (antenna stand.. already mount it to my car.. kereta kebal..)
3. Yaesu FT-8900 (mobile rig)
What I like about this mobile rig Yaesu FT-8900R :-
1. Quad band FM Transceiver (29/50/144/430) or (10m/6m/2m/70cm).
2. Crossband repeater capabilities.
3. Dual-Screen monitoring on dual band.
4. ARS (Automatic Repeater Shift). It can detect the repeater setting.
5. WIRES (Wide-Coverage Internet Repeater Enhancement System).
6. APO (Automatic Power Off) after certain period. (This will save your car batteries if you forget to shut it off).
7. Remote mount.. have to used the separation kit..
What I don't like about this mobile rig Yaesu FT-8900R :-
1. No backlit on the menu button (already test it at dark... very difficult to used the button.. I might want to remember the positions of the button)
2. 6M on FM only. Some said that you need to used ATAS antenna to get it work on HF.
3. Does not have many choice of the antenna.. (I like the Super Gainer antenna)
4. Overall cost?? RM 2k... (huh.. kopakk...)
Have to read the manual on the setting...
I might want to buy the programming kit.. but ahh.. let's do it manually..
